NOC Training: How We Plan the First Weeks for New NOC Engineers

Thinking about applying to our NOC? Here is how we plan the first weeks for a new colleague.

Week one is about context. You get your corporate email and access to our knowledge base, so you can understand the customers you will be working with.

Weeks two and three are about the foundation. We run internal trainings to make sure you understand networking well, from the basic concepts to the advanced ones. You get courses, demos and recorded internal sessions, plus access to our demo lab: simulated routers and switches from different vendors, where you can try things safely and see how each vendor and technology behaves.

From week four you get access to the monitoring of the customer networks. An experienced NOC engineer sits next to you and walks you through the whole workflow: alerts, tickets, escalation. Then you get access to the equipment itself, learn the customer’s network and start troubleshooting, with the same colleague next to you to guide you.

Step by step you work more on your own, until you can tell which alerts affect customers and which can wait, and open tickets and incidents yourself.

That is the plan. Real networks add their own surprises, which is exactly why nobody goes through it alone.

If you started in a NOC yourself, what helped you most in your first weeks?

We have several open positions for NOC Engineers and Junior NOC Engineers in Chisinau. You will work on the networks of ISPs, data centers and hosting providers in Europe and North America. Graduates are welcome if the basics of IP routing are there. 24/7 rotation, 8-hour shifts, office or remote within Moldova.

Job descriptions and the application form are in the comments.
